Emmanuel Muhumuza

Private wealth manager, Johannesburg

I am a BCom Finance graduate and BCom Financial Planning Honours graduate from the University of Johannesburg.

I am currently a private wealth manager based in the north of Johannesburg. As a private wealth manager, my role revolves around tailoring financial solutions to meet the unique needs of affluent individuals and families. I conduct a comprehensive analysis of my clients' financial situations, understanding their goals, risk tolerance and long-term objectives, and with this insight I craft personalised investment portfolios, strategically diversifying assets to optimise returns while managing risks. I entered the industry through the esteemed ASISA graduate program. I graduated in the top 5 in my year and was immediately placed in the largest bespoke Private Wealth Management firm in South Africa.

I intend to write my board exams, which will see me become a designated member of the Financial Planning Institute of South Africa.

Senior tour leader, Birding Ecotours

I am the South African Office Manager and a Senior Tour Leader for Birding Ecotours, an international specialist birding tour operator.

I did not immediately pursue education after school but rather decided to follow my passion, which lay outside the bounds of 'normal tertiary' education. Possessing unique and sought-after skills, I was quickly drafted into a tour company that specialised in birding. I started as a junior tour guide but now hold a managerial position where I oversee all of our African tours as well as several international tours. I currently have a particular focus on Africa, though I have travelled around the world extensively.

I will be publishing my first book in mid-2024, have had hundreds of bird photos published in various books, scientific articles, magazines and applications, and I serve on the South African National Rarities Committee.

I hope I can serve as an example to future learners that it is possible to turn your childhood hobbies into a highly successful and profitable career.

Educator, BEd Honours (Wits)

I am a highly qualified and experienced educator with a passion for teaching. I hold a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree and a BEd Honours degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, where I specialised in English and Mathematics.

I have taught a range of subjects to learners in Grades 4 through 7, and I am actively involved in various school committees and extracurricular activities.

Reflecting on my journey, I cannot help but acknowledge the profound influence of my alma mater, BESA, which laid the foundation for my understanding of what an exemplary school life should encompass.

Many of the invaluable lessons I acquired by observing the dedicated staff at BESA have become the cornerstones of my teaching philosophy. I firmly believe that the mark of a teacher is indelible, and I am committed to leaving a positive and lasting impact on the lives of my learners, just as my teachers did for me at BESA.
